What are the Jazz Retreats?
Jazz Retreats are unique week-long immersions in a jazz combo setting, with an organic approach to integrating theory, discussion, listening, and playing pre-selected tunes with lots of playing! It's where adults can go to learn or improve their improvisation skills and to get together as a jazz community to support and cheer each other on!

2026 Student Repertoire List from Pat Harbison
Spotify Playlist - search under Pat's user name: pharb1955
This is an edited and updated version of the tune lists used at the ‘24 & ‘25 Retreats. The playlist can be found at: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0JyFKtCqpBFT9XdfWHVmDv?si=ecf576c48d624e9d

He has included two or three versions of a tune in the playlist so you can see some different ways the tune can be interpreted, hear more and different solos, etc. Level One is intended to be entry level tunes. Even if you are an advanced player, be sure you know all the tunes on the Level One list before going after more adventurous fare. Learn all the tunes on Level Two before heading to Level Three. Learn the melody by ear from the playlist example(s). Try and figure out the harmony. DO NOT USE ANY PRINTED MUSIC OR IREAL, ETC!!! After you have the melody and as much of the harmony as you can figure out by ear, get a reliable published version (Aebersold book, Real Book etc) and compare.
